1Co 14. Dan Kroon. You cannot talk about spiritual gifts without bumping into some significant controversy. In fact, this is one of the areas (along with baptism) where the wider evangelical church experiences most of its disagreement. And it’s not simply a denominational thing. Different views on the expression of certain spiritual gifts are held within every church, let alone the denomination they belong to. So, we can’t ignore it. Nor can we completely solve it. But we can hope to give it some helpful consideration and keep it in the right context – that of love and the upbuilding of the church. 1 Corinthians 14, though it presents us with many questions, definitely highlights these important principles. And as we consider things like tongues, prophecy, healing and apostleship on Sunday, we remember that all the gifts are to point to the Lordship of Jesus and the truth of his gospel.
